  1. Global Family Day is celebrated on 1 January every year. 
  2. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), appointed Abdullah Abdul Samad Dashti, a retired Kuwaiti Vice Admiral as the new UN Coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
  3. The Andhra Pradesh Government has introduced a lesson on the contribution of Fatima Sheikh in the textbooks of the eighth class. Fatima Sheikh was India’s first woman Muslim teacher and one of India’s greatest social reformers and educators. 
  4. Tamil Nadu Government has announced the ‘Nilgiri Tahr Project’, India’s first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at restoring the state animal’s original habitat and stabilizing its population.
  5. Indian Oil Corporation Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Tuberculosis (TB) Division (CTD) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) and the states of Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to undertake intensified TB elimination project. 
  6. Smt. Droupadi Murmu has laid the foundation stone of the project ‘Development of Pilgrimage Facilities at Bhadrachalam Group of Temples’ at Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamivari Devasthanam, Bhadrachalam in Telangana. 
  7. Vishal Mittal, an Indian student at the University of Canberra (UC), Australia, was recognised as an Ambassador of Change Award, for his outstanding work as a Student Mentor and contribution to the UC community. 
  8. The Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Awards, also known as ‘the Oscars of Education’, gave significant recognition to the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M). 
  9. Asian Games silver medalist Brijesh Damani clinched his maiden National Billiards Championship in Indore. 
  10. Tamil Nadu’s 16-year-old L. Dhanush bagged a gold medal in the youth men’s 49kg section of the National (junior, youth and senior) weightlifting championships at the Ponjesly College of Engineering on 29 December, 2022. 
  11. Union Minister of Home and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah addressed the ‘Cooperative Beneficiaries Conference’ in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 30 December, 2022. 
  12. Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo completed a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr on 30 December, 2022. 
  13. A new British Indian Army Memorial, commemorating the sacrifice of millions of Indian soldiers who fought alongside the British during the two World Wars, is to be built in the Scottish city of Glasgow. 
  14. The Uttar Pradesh Government has appointed IPS officer Laxmi Singh as the new Noida Police chief, making her the first woman officer to head a Police Commissionerate in the state. 
  15. The ‘Dhanu Yatra’ festival, considered to be the world’s largest open-air theatre, began after a gap of two years, in Bargarh in Odisha. 
  16. Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) are set to hold their maiden bilateral air exercise, ‘Veer Guardian 23’, from 16 to 26 January at Hyakuri air base and Iruma air base in Japan.
