  1. World Braille Day is annually observed across the globe on 4 January to emphasise the significance of Braille as a form of communication for the partially sighted and blind. 
  2. Railway Ministry has outlined a five-pronged plan to become carbon-neutral by 2030.
  3. Assam government acquired the historic Matiabag Hawa Mahal of the Gauripur royal family in Dhubri district to preserve it as a heritage site.
  4. The Board of Directors of IDBI Bank Limited re-appointed Suresh Kishinchand Khatanhar as the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of IDBI Bank for one year with effect from 15 January, 2023. 
  5. The Tripura Government has signed an agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) worth Rs. 2,275 crore to strengthen and improve power distribution efficiency in Tripura. 
  6. Suhail Sameer, the Chief Executive Officer of BharatPe, a Fintech startup, has announced his resignation from his position and will transition into Strategic Advisor with effect from 7 January, 2023. 
  7. The World Boxing Council (WBC), one of the four governing bodies for Boxing, will introduce a transgender category from 2023. 
  8. On 3 January 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and addressed the 108th edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC), also known as ISC 2023, organised at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University, Maharashtra.
  9. Former IAS officer Kaki Madhava Rao has authored a new book titled ‘Breaking Barriers: The Story of a Dalit Chief Secretary’ which addresses the details about the dynamics of civil services at the ground level and also fills the gap in the knowledge about micro policies and governance. 
  10. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started ‘Mission 929’ in Tripura.
  11. Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen scripted a unique feat after winning both the World Rapid and World Blitz titles in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He became the holder of all three world chess championship titles – in Classical, Rapid and Blitz – for the third time in his career.

  14. 50 electric buses were launched in Delhi with support under the FAME India Phase II scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries. 
  15. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated Indian Library Congress in Kannur, Kerala. 
  16. Noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sumitra Sen passed away on 3 January, 2023.
