  1. The Indian Army on 5 January, 2023 signed an agreement with the Assam Government to offer Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) at eight medical colleges and hospitals in the state. 
  2. On 3 January 2023, Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland officially began their two-year term as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). 
  3. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help Indian Space tech start-ups with technology tools, go-to-market support, and mentoring to help them scale and become business ready.
  4. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated the Palm leaf Manuscript Museum with modern audio-visual technology at the renovated Central Archives, Fort area in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 
  5. India has taken over the leadership of the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU) in January 2023.
  6. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 6 January, 2023 inaugurated National Genome Editing and Training Centre (NGETC) at National Agri-food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) Mohali, Punjab. 
  7. On the occasion of 76th Foundation Day of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on 6 January, 2023 Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution launched a Portal for mapping of Industrial Units and Laboratories during an event organised in New Delhi. 
  8. Pranesh M became India’s 79th Grandmaster by winning the Rilton Cup, a FIDE Circuit event.
  9. Ministry of Jal Shakti organized the first All India Annual State Minister Conference on Water with the theme of “Water Vision@2027” in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on 5 and 6 January, 2023. 
  10. Australia’s Belinda Clark has become the first female cricketer to have a statue cast in her honour, a bronze sculpture of the trailblazing former captain unveiled outside Sydney Cricket Ground. 
  11. India and France has discussed bilateral and global issues at the 36th India-France strategic dialogue on 5 January, 2023.
  12. The Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of Surinder Chawla as the new Chief Executive Officer of Paytm Payments Bank Limited.
  13. A Medical book ‘Human Anatomy’, written by Dr AK Dwivedi was released by the Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Patel which is a very useful book for the medical students of all courses related to medical education.
  14. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on 4 January chaired a high-level meeting with the four states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal Governments to review the elimination of Kala-Azar from the country by the year 2023.  
  15. Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district administration launched e-library to benefit thousands of students of the district by providing them with notes and study material prepared by the best subject matter specialists in the district.
  16. Gianluca Vialli, the former Italy and Chelsea striker, passed away aged 58 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
