  1. Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD), also known as the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Day is annually celebrated across India on 9 January to highlight the importance of the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. The theme of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023 is “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”.
  2. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has signed a partnership with the JSW Group for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023.
  3. On 5 January 2023, IndusInd Bank partnered with British Airways Executive Club and Qatar Airways Privilege Club to introduce the first-of-its-kind unique multi-branded credit card, powered by Visa. 
  4. India will host a special virtual summit on 12-13 January, 2023 called ‘Voice of Global South Summit’. 
  5. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched low-smoke superior kerosene oil (SKO) for Indian Army in Jammu. 
  6. National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in association with Nehru Memorial Museum and Library organised Astro Tourism- A Sky Gazing event at Delhi’ s India Gate on 6 January, 2023. 
  7. India Accelerator, a seed-stage accelerator program, on 3 January, 2023 announced the launch of the i3 Launchpad, a program created to nurture and co-innovate with the startup ecosystem in India. 
  8. Renowned doctor Dr Tapan Saikia was honoured with the ‘Assam Baibhav’ for his work in the healthcare (cancer treatment) and public service sectors, which included promoting early cancer detection in Assam and other northeastern regions.
  9. Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik directed the distribution of five kilograms of rice per month free of cost to beneficiaries of the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) for the next one year.

  11. USA has approved the first-ever vaccine for honey bees for protection from the American foulbrood disease. 
  12. Hyderabad, Telangana is set to host the 2023 Hyderabad E-Prix, India’s first ever ABB FIA (Federation Internationale de I’Automobile) Formula E World Championship race, on 11 February, 2023. 
  13. India will deploy a platoon of women peacekeepers to UN Mission in Sudan.
  14. Folk singer Maithili Thakur was appointed the state icon for Bihar by the Election Commission. 
  15. The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) members have elected Saiyam Mehra as Chairman and Rajesh Rokde as Vice Chairman of the industry body for a period of two years (2023-24). 
  16. Veteran Sinologist Janaki Ballabh, an Indian translator and writer, who translated a range of Chinese works into Hindi, passed away in Beijing, China at the age of 94.
