  1. Netaji Jayanti is a national event celebrated in India as Parakram Diwas on 23 January to mark the birth of prominent Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
  2. The 5th Foreign Policy and Security Dialogue between India and South Korea was held from 16-17 January, 2023 in Seoul.
  3. In Gujarat, on 20 January 2023, India Post started ‘Tarang Mail Service’ to deliver parcels and mail through the sea route.  
  4. Indian Navy’s fifth stealth Scorpene class submarine INS Vagir was commissioned into the Indian Navy 23 January, 2023 at the Naval Dockyard Mumbai in the presence of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief Guest for the ceremony.
  5. Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited (TMB) has bagged the Best Small Bank award in the Best Banks survey for the year 2022.  
  6. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has extended a concessional USD 40 million Line of Credit for developing sporting infrastructure in the Maldives as part of New Delhi’s efforts to bring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship projects such as ‘Fit India’ and ‘Khelo India’ into the ambit of the Neighbourhood First Policy.

  10. New Zealand’s former COVID-19 response minister and minister for police, education and public service Chris Hipkins has replaced Jacinda Ardern as Prime Minister.
  11. A book titled ‘COACHING BEYOND: My Days with the Indian Cricket Team’ authored by R. Kaushik and R. Sridhar was released.
  12. Praveen Sharma has been appointed as the Director of the National Health Authority (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  13. In the India Open Badminton Championship, Korea’s An Seyoung won the Women’s singles final on 22 January 2023, at K D Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
  14. Kerala’s Wayanad becomes the first district in the country to provide basic documents and facilities such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, birth/death certificates, election ID cards, bank accounts and health insurance to all tribes people.
  15. Odisha State AIDS Control Society organised an awareness program on HIV AIDS in coordination with the Department of Sports and Youth Services and Hockey India under the leadership of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) on 19 January, 2023.
  16. Padma Shri awardee Prabhaben Sobhagchand Shah, social worker from Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu passed away on 18 January, 2023 at the age of 92.
