  1. Data Protection Day or Data Privacy Day is annually celebrated on 28 January to create more awareness about the right to data protection and the various ways in which people can keep their data more safe. The theme of 2023 is “Think Privacy First”. 
  2. On 26 January 2023, 47 personnel were awarded the President’s Fire Service Medals for distinguished service. 
  3. The Song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from India’s blockbuster film RRR and two documentaries from the country ‘All That Breathes’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ have made it to the final nominations list at the 95th edition of the Academy Awards. 
  4. AU Small Finance Bank, India’s largest Small Finance Bank, announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind platform in the credit card industry – the SwipeUp platform. 
  5. India and Egypt signed an MoU to facilitate content exchange, capacity building, and co-productions between Prasar Bharati and the National Media Authority of Egypt. 
  6. The Border Security Force (BSF) carried out ‘Ops Alert’ exercise from 21-28 January, 2023 with the goal of enhancing security along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in the Kutch region of Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan.
  7. Pawan Agarwal, Managing Director, Naini Papers Ltd. and Vadiraj Kulkarni, have been elected as new President and Vice President respectively of Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) at the 23rd Annual Session of IPMA. 
  8. New Zealand Cricket announced the introduction of the Debbie Hockley Medal to honor the outstanding female cricketer. 
  9. India has emerged as one of the top three countries in the world where the area under organic agriculture expanded the maximum in 2020.
  10. Ketaki Narayan won the best actress for her role in Krishnendu Kalesh directed film Prappeda (Hawk’s Muffin) in the Asian Film Competition section at the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), Bangladesh. 
  11. In 2023, the three-day celebrations of the Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day from 24-26 January was celebrated with public participation on the theme of ‘Investment and Employment’. 
  12. South Africa bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen was crowned as the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2022. 
  13. National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Wildlife Institute of India (WII) organised a seminar on ‘Millets for Life (Lifestyle for Environment): Developing Climate Resilient Local Communities in the Ganga Basin’ in New Delhi on 24 January, 2023. 
  14. Himachal Pradesh celebrates its 53rd Statehood Day on 25 January, 2023.
  15. Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) handed over to ISRO, the Visible Line Emission Coronagraph (VELC), the primary payload on board Aditya-L1, which is India’s first dedicated scientific mission to study the Sun, to be launched by June or July.
  16. Veteran Telugu film actress and former Lok Sabha MP from Rajahmundry, Jamuna passed away on 27 January, 2023 at the age of 86.
