  1. World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (World NTD Day) is observed on 30 January every year to raise awareness about neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) as a critical public health challenge so that we can progress towards their elimination. The theme of 2023 is “Act Now. Act Together. Invest in Neglected Tropical Diseases”. 
  2. On 30 January, India observed Martyrs’ Day or Shaheed Diwas to pay tribute to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. The day is also marked as the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 30 January, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi.
  3. India became the second country after China to implement the one-day cycle or T+1(trade plus one) market settlement cycle that will bring operational efficiency, faster fund remittances, share delivery, and ease for stock market participants.
  4. Woxsen University launched Project Aspiration to empower adolescent girls of Classes IX-XII of Telangana Model School & Junior College.
  5. Indian Cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has been selected as the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for the year 2022 for his stellar performance. 
  6. The Chief Executive of Toyota Motor Corp, Akio Toyoda stepped down as head of the company. 
  7. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has announced the appointment of IIM-Lucknow professor Bharat Bhasker as IIM-A Director for five years with effect from 1 March, 2023. 
  8. US President Joe Biden has nominated Julie Turner as special envoy for human rights in North Korea. 
  9. HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited (HDFC Life) has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to allow policyholders to pay their premiums via ‘UPI 123PAY’, a unique voice-based Unified Payments (UPI service). 
  10. Brazil’s Ministry of Health has declared a medical emergency in the Yanomami territory, the country’s largest indigenous reservation bordering Venezuela, following reports of children dying of malnutrition and other diseases caused by illegal gold mining. 
  11. PepsiCo Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PepsiCo and CARE, has launched ‘She Feeds the World’ program in India to strengthen the role of small-scale women producers through sustainable training and economic support.

  14. Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Film Festival was organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting through the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Mumbai from 27 to 31 January, 2023. 
  15. Railways introduced ‘Ideal Train Profile’ to maximise seat occupancy which allows more than 5,000 combinations of ticket and class for a single-date train journey. 
  16. In the Australian Open Tennis, the Brazilian duo of Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos won the Mixed Doubles title on 27 January, 2023.
