  1. World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on 2 February to create awareness among people about the importance of wetlands and different ways to restore their rapid loss and degradation. According to the United Nations Environment Programme the theme of World Wetlands Day 2023 is “It’s Time for Wetlands Restoration”. 
  2. Former PM Manmohan Singh was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Honour by the India-UK Achievers Honours in London for his contribution to economic and political life.
  3. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on 31 January, 2023 inaugurated IndiaOne Air’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) Flight Operations for Jamshedpur-Kolkata under the UDAN scheme.
  4. On 29 January, 2023 Ministry of Education (MoE) released the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2020-2021.
  5. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) at a mega function to kick start the games that will see participation from nearly 6,000 athletes from across the country in 27 disciplines.
  6. The United States space agency NASA has said the country plans to test a spacecraft engine powered with nuclear fission by 2027, an advancement seen as key to long-haul missions including a manned journey to Mars.
  7. A joint training exercise ‘Trishakri Prahar’ was conducted by Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in North Bengal from 21-31 January, 2023.

  9. Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy launched the Visit India Year-2023 initiative in New Delhi on 31 January, 2023 and also unveiled its logo.
  10. Uttar Pradesh Government has launched a campaign, ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’ to make daughters of the underprivileged classes capable and self-reliant. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan will work under the Aarohini Initiative Training Programme for the safety and security of girls in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools in Uttar Pradesh.
  11. The Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Alkesh Kumar Sharma inaugurated the G20 Cyber Security Exercise and Drill for more than 400 domestic and international participants under India’s G20 presidency.
  12. Reliance Consumer Products Limited, the FMCG firm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited announced a strategic partnership with Sri Lanka-headquartered Maliban Biscuit Manufactories Limited.
  13. A new saving scheme ‘Mahila Samman Saving Certificate’ for women and girls was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24.
  14. According to the latest Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) ranking 2023, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is the top government college in India for pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course.
  15. Government e-marketplace (GeM) informed that in 2022, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the largest buyer through MSME sellers.
  16. Former Law Minister and veteran lawyer Shanti Bhushan passed away on 31 January, 2023 at the age of 97.
