CURRENT AFFAIRS OF 10th FEBRUARY, 2023

  1. Every year United Nations General Assembly designated World Pulses Day is celebrated on 10 February with an aim to spread awareness about the nutritional and environmental benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production. The theme for the year 2023 is “Pulses for a Sustainable Future”. 
  2. The National Deworming Day is observed on 10 February every year in all States and Union Territories across India. It is an initiative taken by the Government of India to deworm all the children across the nation in the age group of 1 to 19.
  3. The Union Government on 7 February 2023, appointed K Satyanarayana Raju as the Managing Director and CEO of Canara Bank.
  4. Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Jardosh inaugurated the 68th India International Garment Fair on 7 February, 2023 at India Export Mart of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
  5. A two-day Urban-20 City Sherpas’ meet held on 9-10 February 2023, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
  6. Airtel Payments Bank announced the availability of its current account, BizKhata, which offers small businesses and business partners across the nation fast activation and limitless transactions.  
  7. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav launched the ‘Digital Payments Utsav’ in New Delhi on 9 February, 2023.
  8. Indian-American student Natasha Periyanayagam was named in the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth’s list of ‘world’s most talented’ students for the second year in a row.

  10. Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala told Lok Sabha that India is the highest milk producer in the world contributing twenty-four per cent of global milk production in the year 2021-22.
  11. The Punjab Government approved a new policy for industries and electric vehicles for a period of five years.
  12. Author Salman Rushdie published his new novel ‘Victory City’, an “epic tale” of a 14th century woman who defies a patriarchal world to rule a city.
  13. France defender Raphael Varane announced his retirement from international football, ending a 10-year career with Les Bleus in which he won the World Cup in 2018 and was a runners-up four years later.
  14. The Indian Government issued urgent and emergency orders to restrict 138 betting and gambling applications and 94 loan-providing apps. Players including PayU’s LazyPay, Kissht, and numerous more loan apps were impacted by the prohibition.
  15. The government has extended the PM-KUSUM scheme till March 2026.
  16. On 8 February 2023, American composer, Burt Bacharach, who won 3 Oscars in 1982 and 1970 (twice) and eight Grammys, passed away in Los Angeles, California, USA at the age of 94.
