CURRENT AFFAIRS OF 11th FEBRUARY, 2023

  1. The United Nations General Assembly designated 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to recognise the significant contribution that women make to the fields of science and technology. The theme for the 8th International Day of Women and Girls in Science is “Innovate. Demonstrate. Elevate. Advance (IDEA): Bringing communities Forward for sustainable and equitable development”.
  2. World Unani Day is annually observed across the globe on 11 February to create and spread awareness about health care delivery through the Unani system of medicine. The day is also marked as the birth anniversary of Mohammad Ajmal Khan, a great Indian Unani scholar and social reformer. The theme of world Unani Day 2023 is “Unani Medicine for Public Health”.
  3. World Day of the Sick annually observed across the globe on 11 February marks the annual day of prayer for the sick.
  4. India’s national accreditation system under Quality Council of India, has been ranked 5th in the world in Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII) 2021.
  5. Veteran journalist Dr. A.B.K. Prasad has been chosen for the prestigious ‘Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award’ for excellence in Journalism.
  6. ‘Operation Dost’ is a rescue operation initiated by the Government of India to aid Syria and Turkey, after an earthquake hit both countries on 6 February, 2023.
  7. The Sculpture Park at Bikaner House in New Delhi was inaugurated by Rajasthan Chief Secretary Usha Sharma. It showcases a fusion of modern and contemporary art and culture in the traditional setting of Bikaner House.
  8. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has partnered with Samsung Semiconductor India Research to promote research and development in the field of on-chip Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection.
  9. MobiKwik has become the first fintech app to support RuPay Credit Cards on UPI.
  10. Lawyer Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri was appointed as the additional judge of Madras High Court on 7 February, 2023.
  11. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad comprising India, United States, Japan and Australia on 8 February 2023, launched a public campaign ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ to improve cyber security across their nations.
  12. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh inaugurated the Mission Antyodaya Survey (MAS) 2022-23 in New Delhi on 9 February, 2023.
  13. The Kerala Government announced a scheme of Rs. 200 crore for developing green hydrogen hubs at Trivandrum and Kochi. Kerala aims to become a 100 percent renewable energy-dependent state by 2040 and a net carbon-neutral state by 2050.
  14. The ICC T-20 Women’s World Cup began in South Africa on 10 February, 2023.
  15. According to the US space agency NASA, its “all-electric” plane X-57 is soon set to take off. The plane has 14 propellers along its wings and is powered entirely by electricity. 
  16. National School of Drama (NSD) is organizing the 2nd edition of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) from 14-26 February, 2023.
