  1. ‘World Braille Day’ is observed globally on 4th January since 2019. The day is marked remembering the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille  for people with visual disabilities.
  2. The Losar Festival in Ladakh is celebrated at the onset of the New Year in traditional schedule of Tibetan Buddhism.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated projects worth Rs. 4,800 crores to Manipur while Tripura received the new integrated terminal building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport along with two key development initiatives. 
  4. ‘Ayush Aahaar’ project was launched by AYUSH Ministry. It was launched at Ayush Bhawan canteen of the ministry. The project aims to promote healthy living through nutritious diet.
  5. A second road linking Tsomgo lake and Nathula border pass with Gangtok  christened as 'Narendra Modi Marg' was officially inaugurated by Governor Ganga Prasad. The older route is called Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
  6. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has announced that the ‘Jhansi Railway Station’ in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed "Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station" in honor of Rani Laxmibai. 
  7. Telangana stood first in the country in the list of the highest number of Open Defecation Free (ODF Plus)  villages under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase-II programme’ till December 31, 2021.
  8. The Parliamentary Standing Committee constituted to examine “The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021” comprise of a total of 31 members, including only one women representative. TMC MP Sushmita Dev is the sole woman representative in the committee.
  9. India has invited a total of 46 friendly foreign countries to participate in the multinational naval exercise ‘Milan’ in Visakhapatnam, scheduled from February 25, 2022.
  10. The interest rates on the small savings schemes will remain the same for the fourth quarter of 2021-2022 (January – February – March 2022) as they were in the third quarter of 2021-22 (October-December 2021). It must be noted that West Bengal is the highest contributor to the small saving schemes while Uttar Pradesh is the second top contributor.
  11. Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has launched the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to attract large investments for setting up semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities in India.
  12. Bollywood film producer Vijay Galani has passed away. He was suffering from blood cancer and was in London for seeking treatment.
  13. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk, who hired Indian-origin Ashok Elluswamy as the first employee for his electric vehicle company’s Autopilot team.
  14. Russia successfully test-fired around 10 new Tsirkon (Zircon) hypersonic cruise missiles from a frigate and other two missiles from a submarine.
  15. Scientists and experts in France have reportedly identified a new variant of COVID-19 termed ‘IHU’. The new variant is said to be a more mutated strain than Omicron.
  16. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Duchess of Cornwall and Baroness Amos are to be appointed as members of the ‘Order of the Garter’, England’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry.
  17. There was a massive fire at South Africa's Parliament in Cape Town on January 2, 2022. The fire caused the roof of the old national assembly to collapse. No casualties were reported.  
  18. K.L. Rahul has become the 34th Indian to lead India in Test matches after he took on the skipper's role during India's second test against South Africa at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg on January 3, 2022.
