  1. The ‘Jangalmahal Festival’ is celebrated on 17 January across the state in West Bengal. The Jangalmahal Festival has been celebrated for the first time in Deucha-Pachami of Birbhum.  
  2. The world’s largest national flag, made of Khadi fabric was put to display to celebrate the “Army Day” on January 15, 2022. It was displayed at Longewala, along the India – Pakistan Border in Jaisalmer.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Davos Agenda virtual event on 17 January, 2022. The event is being convened on the theme of ‘The State of the World’.
  4. Union Minister of MSME Narayan Rane inaugurated the MSME pavilion virtually at World Expo, 2020 Dubai, on 17 January 2022.
  5. Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur has developed new varieties of oats, wheat, rice, and niger crop, which are suitable for production in other states as well.
  6. The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has set up an online ‘Raksha Pension Shikayat Nivaran Portal’ to resolve pension-related grievances of ex-servicemen (ESM) and their dependents.
  7. Kerala’s Kumbalanghi is set to become the country’s first sanitary napkin-free panchayat. 
  8. The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd has received a certificate from the Indian Navy for producing high-strength steel for making submarines.
  9. The Board of Directors of Adani Power Limited (APL), a subsidiary of Adani Group, approved the appointment of Shersingh B. Khyalia as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Powers with effect from 11th January 2022.
  10. Narendra Kumar Goenka took charge of Apparel export Promotion Council (AEPC) as its new Chairman on 17 January 2022.
  11. The name of YES Asset Management has been rechristened as WhiteOak Capital Asset Management.  The change in the names are effective from January 12, 2022.
  12. A recipient of the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ legendary Kathak dancer, Pandit Birju Maharaj has passed away at the age of 83.
  13. Saoli Mitra, eminent theatre personality and daughter of legendary actors Sombhu Mitra and Tripti Mitra passed away in January 2022.
  14. Social activist Shanti Devi, also known as Lugdi Devi, Passed away in January 2022.
  15. Noted environmentalist Prof M. K. Prasad passed away in January 2022.
  16. Indian Navy and Russian Navy undertook ‘PASSEX’ exercises at the port of Cochin, in the Arabian Sea. The Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and built guided-missile destroyer, INS Kochi, took part in the exercise. Russian Federation Navy was represented by RFS Admiral Tributs.
  17. Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen has defeated World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, in the men’s singles final of India Open 2022 to secure his maiden Super 500 title.
  18. Goalkeeper Savita Punia named captain of India Women’s Hockey team at the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup in Muscat.
  19. Tasnim Mir has become the first Indian to grab the world no 1 ranking in the under 19 girls singles in the latest BWF junior rankings.
  20. England’s world cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan was awarded with CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by Prince William for his services towards the game of cricket.
