CURRENT AFFAIRS OF  15th  AUGUST 2022

      

  1. In 2022, India has celebrated 76th Independence Day on 15 August 2022, to mark the country’s freedom from nearly two centuries of British colonial rule.
  2. ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ is observed in India on 14 August. It commemorates the victims and sufferings of people during the Partition of India in 1947.
  3. Ace investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, known as the ‘Big Bull’ of Dalal Street, passed away on 14 August, 2022 at the age of 62.
  4. The Central govt has re-appointed four independent directors on the RBI central board for a term of four years. The government has re-nominated Satish K Marathe, S Gurumurthy, Revathy Iyer and Sachin Chaturvedi as part-time, non-official directors.
  5. India has added 11 more wetlands to the list of Ramsar sites bringing the country’s total tally of these sites to 75. Of the 11 new sites, four are in Tamil Nadu, three in Odisha, two in Jammu and Kashmir, and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
  6. A total of 1082 Police Personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day, 2022. 347 personnel have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry, 87 have been awarded with Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 648 personnel have been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
  7. India will start supplying petrol with 20% ethanol at select petrol pumps from April 2023.
  8. The Village Defence Guard Scheme – 2022 came into effect in Jammu and Kashmir from 15 August 2022. Earlier, this scheme was known as Village Defence Committee in which volunteers from villages were trained by Indian Army and Police.
  9. India handed over a Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft to the Sri Lankan navy on 15 August 2022 in a ceremony attended by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
  10.  Bharat Biotech has completed clinical development for phase III trials and booster doses for BBV154 intranasal Covid Vaccine.
  11.  President Droupadi Murmu has approved President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) and Tatrakshak Medal (TM) to the Indian Coast Guard Personnel.
  12.  The commemorate India’s 75th year of Independence, the government has instituted the 75th Independence Anniversary Medal for all armed forces personnel.
  13.  The Government has notified the appointments of another 11 High Court Judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
  14.  The 13th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2022 began on 12 August and will conclude on 30 August.
  15.  India was suspended by world football governing body FIFA for “undue influence from third parties” and stripped the country of the right to host the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for October.
