  1. World Gujarati Language Day is celebrated every year on 24 August. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great writer of Gujarat ‘Veer Narmad’.
  2. ‘Internaut Day’ is celebrated on 23 August every year to mark the invention of the World Wide Web.
  3. Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa created history by winning three games in a row and defeating reigning five times World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen at the FTX Crypto Cup, on 22 August, 2022.
  4.  A first-of-its-kind, Composite Indoor Shooting Range (CISR) was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta at INS Karna, on 18 August 2022.
  5.  Senior scientist Debasisa Mohanty has been appointed as the Director of the National Institute of Immunology (NII).
  6.  Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh on 22 August, 2022 inaugurated the Silk Mark Expo in New Delhi.
  7. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary of the Union Department of Electronics and Information Technology, to the 10-member Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Leadership Panel.
  8. Indian footballer (striker) Manisha Kalyan (20 year old) from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, has become the first Indian to play in the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Women’s Championship League by making her debut for Apollon Ladies FC.
  9. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a bilateral meeting and co-chaired the Australia-India Education Council with his Australian counterpart Jason Clare at Western Sydney University on 22 August, 2022.
  10. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a loan of $96.3 million (about Rs 769 crore) for a project to provide safe drinking water and improve water supply and sanitation services in Himachal Pradesh.
  11. Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh on 23 August, 2022 launched new portal under Bhuvan ‘Yuktdhara’ to facilitate planning of new MGNREGA assets using remote Sensing and GIS based information.
  12.  Vikram Doraiswami, an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1992 batch, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom.
  13.  Sajith Sivanandan has been appointed as the Executive Vice-President and Head of Disney+Hotstar.
  14.  A 2600-bed Amrita Hospital Faridabad, Asia’s biggest hospital with state-of-the-art technology, including a centrally located, fully automated laboratory, was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  15. The 2022 Liberty Medal will be awarded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy will be honoured for “his heroic defence of liberty in the face of Russian tyranny”.
