  1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) celebrated its 65th foundation day on 1 January, 2023. 
  2. China becomes the first country in Asia and second in the world to launch Hydrogen powered urban trains. 
  3. Captain Shiva Chouhan, hailing from Rajasthan has become the first woman officer of the Indian Army to get operationally deployed at Siachen Glacier, Karakoram range in the Himalayas in Ladakh, the world’s highest battlefield.
  4. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), National Centre for Earth Sciences (NCES), and the Andhra University (AU) have researched and concluded that constant rip current zones at blue flag-certified Rushikonda Beach and RK Beach have become a danger to the beach visitors. 
  5. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Sujoy Lal Thaosen took the additional charge as Director General Border Security Force (BSF). 
  6. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Yashwant Chaandrachud launched the Electronic Supreme Court Reports (E-SCR) project to provide free access to about 34,000 judgements of SC lawyers, law students and the common public. 
  7. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Sampark Kranti Express train which runs between Ahmedabad and Delhi will be renamed as Akshardham Express as a tribute to Pramukh Swami Maharaj. 
  8. State-owned power giant NTPC started India’s first green hydrogen blending operation in the PNG (piped natural gas) network of its township in Kawas, Surat. 
  9. On 31 December, 2022 Lingam Venkata Prabhakar, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Canara Bank retired from his services, on attaining the age of superannuation. 
  10. Odisha has become the first ever Indian state to have a separate registration process for vintage vehicles (both two and four-wheelers). 
  11. On 1 January 2023, Croatia, the youngest member of the European Union, adopted the ‘Euro’ currency, and it became a part of Europe’s border-free Schengen zone. 
  12. Neem trees have been identified with dieback disease in Telangana. 
  13. On 3 January 2023, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), dedicated to the nation 28 infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation worth Rs. 724 crores in seven bordering States/Union Territories during an event held at the Siyom Bridge in Arunachal Pradesh. 
  14. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made Yo-Yo test and Dexa test mandatory for players to be selected for the national team.
  15. The 10th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest (DLF), the largest international literary festival in Bangladesh, which was postponed three years in a row owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, is scheduled for 5-8 January, 2023. 
  16. On 3 January, 2023 Shyamal Ghosh, former Indian Football player passed away in Kolkata at the age of 71.
