1. World Day of War Orphans is observed on 6 January every year with an aim to raise awareness about plight of children orphaned in wars and to address the traumatic conditions faced by them.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch the world’s longest river cruise, ‘Ganga Vilas’ from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh, Assam on 13 January, 2023.
3. Odisha Government’s slum improvement and land titling program, JAGA Mission has won the UN-Habitat Awards 2023.
4. Spain is the theme country of 46^th International Kolkata Book Fair.
5. Ghaziabad-Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay section (762 km) becomes the longest fully automatic block signaling section of Indian Railways.
6. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 18^th National Scout and Guide Jamboree, at Rohat in the Pali district of Rajasthan on 4 January, 2023. 
7. NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) signed an agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) for the development of renewable energy-based power projects for HPCL Refineries and other Business Units on 4 January, 2023. 
8. Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, US-based businessman Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, and DSB Group CEO Piyush Gupta are among 21 recipients of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award. 
9. The Union Cabinet has approved the naming of Greenfield International Airport at Goa’s Mopa as Manohar International Airport after former Defence Minister and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. 
10. Sweden took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for the next 6 months on 1 January, 2023. 
11. Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat became the first bowler in the Ranji Trophy tournament to take a hat-trick in the first over.
12. The Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and all three Services have signed MoUs with various stakeholders to facilitate the continued education of Agniveers while serving in the Armed Forces.

14. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 3 January, 2023 virtually inaugurated the Bailey Suspension Bridge over river Chenab in Ramban district of the Jammu division.
15. Union Cabinet on 4 January, 2023 approved the investment for the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydroelectric Project in Himachal Pradesh. 
16. Walter Cunningham, the last surviving astronaut from the successful crewed space mission in NASA’s Apollo program, passed away at the age of 90 on 3 January, 2023.
