  1. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay has decided to dedicate the 2023 International Day of Education to Afghan girls and women. The theme of the fifth International Day of Education “to invest in people, prioritize education”.  
  2. The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on 24 January. It was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to promote and raise concerns about the inequalities faced by girl-child across the country.
  3. Uttar Pradesh Day or Uttar Pradesh Diwas is celebrated on 24 January as Foundation Day of the Indian state in 1950. It was celebrated since 2018 as proposed by the then Governor Ram Naik.
  4. Union Government approved the appointment of Vikram Dev Dutt as the next Chief of the Directorate of General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on 21 January, 2023.
  5. G20’s first Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting will be held from 9-11 February, 2023 in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  6. BharOS, India’s indigenous mobile operating system has been developed by IIT Madras incubated Firm-JaNdK Operations Private Limited (JandKops).
  7. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani ranked first among Indians and second globally on the Brand Guardianship Index 2023. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang topped the list globally, with Microsoft’s Satya Nadella occupying third place.
  8. ESAF Small Finance Bank has bagged the prestigious Inclusive Finance India Awards 2022 for its contributions in advancing the goal of financial inclusion and supporting inclusive growth.
  9. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the ‘School of Eminence’, an ambitious project of the Punjab Government.
  10. ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) drived the theme of this year’s Republic Day tableau of Navy. The front of the tableau featured a woman aircrew of a Dornier aircraft flying overhead, and Lt. Commander Disha Amrith tasked with commanding its parade contingent. The theme of the naval tableau was “Indian Navy — Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future Proof”.
  11. A Spanish great-grandmother who was born in the United States has likely become the world’s oldest living person at 115, a Guinness World Records. 
  12. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched LIC Jeevan Azad Plan, a limited period premium payment plan that offers financial support for the family in case of unfortunate death of the life assured during the policy term.  
  13. The United Arab Emirates is in early discussions with India to trade non-oil commodities in Indian rupees, Minister for Foreign Trade Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi said in World Economic Forum, Davos. 
  14. Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and Lunglei Fire Station (LFS), Mizoram, both in the Institutional category, have been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar-2023 for their excellent work in Disaster Management.
  15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed title deeds or ‘Hakku Patra’ to over 52,000 eligible beneficiaries from the Lambani nomadic tribes residing in northern Karnataka.  
  16. David Crosby, one of the most influential rock singers of the 1960s and 70s, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with two different groups, passed away.
