  1. World Day for Safety and Health at Work is annually observed across the globe on 28 April with an aim to raise awareness regarding the significance of safeguarding workers against occupational hazards, illnesses, and accidents. The theme for World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023 is “A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work”.
  2. Belgium-based company Vito is soon expected to launch a project to generate biodiesel from waste in Ayodhya. The temple town has been selected for the two-year pilot project.
  3. The Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have made a noteworthy and inventive decision to urge States and Union Territories to establish 100 food streets in 100 districts throughout the country.  
  4. IIT Guwahati Researchers have developed ‘Time bomb’ liquid marbles using nanoclay for controlled drug delivery.
  5. Shakira, the renowned Colombian singer, will be recognized with the prestigious ‘Latin Women of the Year’ award at the inaugural Latin Women in Music gala hosted by Billboard.

  14. IIT Madras is set to establish the first Indian Institute of Technology in Africa in Tanzania, with classes scheduled to begin in October. The new campus will be located in Zanzibar, and marks IIT Madras’ first international campus.
  15. To combat the falling value of the Zimbabwean currency, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has announced plans to introduce a gold-backed digital currency.
  16. Moorkoth Vengakandi Shankaran (M.V. Shankaran), also known as Gemini Shankaran, the founder of Gemini Circus and a pioneer of modern Indian circus passed away on 24 April, 2023 at the age of 99.
