  1. World Metrology Day is annually observed across the globe on 20 May to create awareness about the Metrology, scientific study of measurement and its application and also recognizes and celebrates the contribution the people who work in intergovernmental and national metrology organizations and institutes. The theme of World Metrology Day 2023 is “Measurements supporting the global food system”.
  2. World Bee Day is annually held on 20 May to increase awareness of the importance of pollinator-friendly agricultural production practices to protect bees and other pollinators and to recognize the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem. The theme for World Bee Day 2023 is “Engaging in Pollinator-Friendly Agricultural Production”. 
  3. The Union Government has approved the signing of the Project Collaboration Agreement between the Department of Health Research (DHR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on Assistive Technology on 17 May, 2023.
  4. On 20 May, 2023 Siddaramaiah sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, and DK Shivakumar as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
  5. The Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have jointly announced their commitment to prioritize ‘Integrative Health’ for the well-being of the public.

  10. The Indian Navy’s sixth and final Kalvari class submarine, Vaghsheer, has begun its sea trials. Vaghsheer is scheduled for delivery to the Indian Navy in early 2024 after completion of the sea trials.
  11. FIFA, the global governing body of football, has unveiled the official logo and campaign for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 on 17 May 2023, at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

  16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Odisha’s first Vande Bharat Train from Puri to Howrah on 18 May, 2023.
