  1. United Nations’ International Day for Biological Diversity is annually observed across the globe on 22 May to increase understanding and encourage the preservation of the Earth’s diverse ecosystems. The theme for International Day for Biological Diversity 2023 is “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”.
  2. United Nations’ Global Road Safety Week is a biennial global road safety campaign hosted by World Health Organization which aims to recognize and create awareness of road safety and make changes that will reduce the number of road deaths by demanding safe and sustainable mobility. The theme of United Nations’ Global Road Safety Week 2023 is “StreetsforLife #RethinkMobility”.
  3. Japan is considering adopting India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) payment system to enhance cross-border transactions and payment mechanisms.
  4. Madhya Pradesh becomes the first state to provide government-funded air travel for pilgrimage under the Mukhya Mantri Teerth-Darshan Yojana.
  5. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on 20 May 2023, laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) in Dwaraka, Gujarat.

  12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 May 2023, was conferred with the highest honour of Fiji, Companion of the Order of Fiji by the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka.
  13. India will host the Quad Summit in 2024, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Quad Summit 2023.
  14. INS Tarkash and INS Subhadra have arrived at Port Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia to participate in the AL-MOHED AL-HINDI 2023 naval exercise.
  15. International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest certification player for lab grown diamonds and the second largest certification player for natural diamonds, has been fully acquired by global private equity firm Blackstone.
  16. On 19 May 2023, a renowned British Novelist Martin Louis Amis, a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, passed away in Lake Worth, Florida, USA at the age of 73.
