  1. The United Nations has designated 25 to 31 May as the International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non-Self-Governing Territories. This observance was established by the UN General Assembly on 6 December, 1999.
  2. Commonwealth Day is annually celebrated across the globe on the second Monday of March, although India and certain other countries mark it on 24 May. The theme for 2023 Commonwealth Day is “Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future”.
  3. As part of Axiom Space’s private mission to the International Space Station (ISS), Rayyanah Barnawi became the first Arab woman astronaut to go into space.
  4. The Government of Goa and the Government of Uttarakhand have come together and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance the tourism landscape of both Goa and Uttarakhand.
  5. The AI Supercomputer ‘AIRAWAT’, situated at C-DAC, Pune, achieved an impressive global ranking of 75th on the esteemed Top 500 Global Supercomputing List.
  6. Leading sports broadcaster Sony Sports Network has announced Sania Mirza as the Tennis Ambassador for Sony Sports Network.
  7. Infosys, a leading IT services company, has launched Topaz, an artificial intelligence (AI)-first suite of services that combines data analytics, cloud and generative AI technologies to create value for clients.  
  8. IDBI Bank announced via an official filing that Jayakumar S. Pillai has been appointed as Deputy Managing Director on the bank’s Board.
  9. In a significant development highlighting the strengthening ties between India and Australia, the two nations signed crucial agreements on migration and mobility partnership, as well as on the establishment of a Green Hydrogen task force.
  10. Harsh Jain, co-founder, and CEO of Dream11, has been elected the chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) for 2023-25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on 23 May 2023, officially named Sydney’s Harris Park area in Parramatta as ‘Little India’ and laid the foundation stone as a symbol of the friendship between the two nations and to recognise the diaspora’s immense contribution.
  12. India for the first time won two senior individual medals in women’s skeet at International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup stage in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Ganemat Sekhon won silver medal while Darshna Rathore claimed bronze medal.
  13. On 25 May 2023, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs, laid the foundation stone of the Guwahati (Assam) campus of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU).
  14. Ireland is set to become the first country to introduce mandatory health warnings on alcohol products.
  15. Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Minority Affairs have jointly taken a significant step to promote and develop Unani system of medicine in India by approving a grant of Rs. 45.34 Crore under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme.
  16. On 25 May 2023, South Korea successfully launched ‘Next Generation Small Satellite 2 (NEXTSat-2)’, the first commercial-grade satellite aboard Korean Satellite Launch Vehicle-II (KSLV-II), nicknamed Nuri, from the launch pad at Naro Space Centre in Goheung, South Korea.
