  1. World Water Week is annually observed across the globe during the last week of August with an aim to examine the pivotal role of water in addressing several pressing global such as water crisis, global warming, biodiversity loss, and so on. This event is organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute every year since 1991. World Water Week 2023 took place from 20 to 24 August at the Waterfront Congress Center. The theme of World Water Week 2023 is “Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water-Wise World”.
  2. Eminent industrialist and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata was conferred with the first ever ‘Udyog Ratna’ award instituted by the Maharashtra Government at his home in Colaba in south Mumbai.  
  3. Wrestler Mohit Kumar made history by winning the U20 World Wrestling Championships in the 61kg freestyle category after he bounced back from 0-6 score in the final against the Russian Federation’s Eldar Akhmaduninov to win the match 9-8.
  4. In a significant stride towards enhancing the air travel experience in the Northeastern region of India, Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) has become the first airport in the area to introduce the innovative ‘Digi Yatra’ facility.

  7. India has announced the definition of Green Hydrogen. The Green Hydrogen Standard for India sets a criterion of 2 kg CO2 equivalent per kg H2 as a 12-month average emission threshold.
  8. The eagerly awaited Ninth India Region Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) took place in the historic city of Udaipur, in the state of Rajasthan.
  9. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has embarked on a groundbreaking project to construct the ‘Likaru-Mig La-Fukche’ road in the Demchok sector of Ladakh. It will be established as the world’s highest motorable road, spanning an altitude of approximately 19,400 feet, surpassing the previous record held by Umling La Pass. The initiative was launched on India’s 77th Independence Day.

  12. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in sports between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, India and the Department of Health and Aged Care of the Government of Australia.
