  1. ‘Central Excise Day’, which is observed on February 24 commemorates the Central Excise and Salt Act which was enacted on 24th February 1944.
  2. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin on February 24, announced a military operation in Ukraine with explosions heard soon after in the Capital of Ukraine as well as in other parts of the country.   
  3. Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan on Thursday said that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is taking steps to bring back about 18,000 Indians including students from Ukraine.
  4. In a significant move that aims to empower the transgender community, the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) and the Indian HIV/AIDS Alliance signed and MoU on 23 February 2022. It will enhance the livelihood opportunities of the transgender community.
  5. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal (As of Feb 2022) inaugurated “Nikarshan Sadan Dredging Museum” on 23 February, 22. It is built by “Dredging Corporation of India”, at DCI campus in Visakhapatnam.
  6. International Chess Player woman FIDE Masters, Tanishka Kotia and her sister Riddhika Kotia are appointed as Brand Ambassadors of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme for the Gurugram District of Haryana.  
  7. The Union Minister of State has said that the government was planning to commence ‘Purple Revolution’ in Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir. Purple or Lavender Revolution was launched by the Union Ministry of Science & Technology through the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Aroma Mission.
  8. The Central Government launched the “Janbhagidari Empowerment” portal in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in line with the government’s digital mission.
  9. Finance Ministry’s Principal Economic Advisor, Sanjeev Sanyal has been inducted as a full-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), the panel’s chairman Bibek Debroy announced. 
  10. IBM corp. will be launching a cyber security hub in Bengaluru, to address the concerns of its clients across the Asia Pacific (APAC).
  11. Scientists from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, for the first time in India successfully demonstrated Quantum Key Distribution link between Prayagraj and Vindhyachal in UP, a distance of more than 100 km, in February 2022.
  12. Coca-Cola India’s soft-drink brand Thums Up has on-boarded Shahrukh Khan as its brand endorser.
  13. Bharti Airtel Ltd. has joined “SEA-ME-WE-6 undersea cable consortium”, for scaling up its high-speed global network capacity and serving India’s fast growing digital economy. It is a proposed optical fibre submarine communications cable system, that will carry telecommunications between Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Western Europe.
  14. Noted Malayalam actress Maheshwari Amma, who was popularly known by her stage name KPAC Lalitha, passed away in Kochi.  She won the national award for best Supporting Actress for her performance in the Malayalam film ‘Amaram’ and ‘Santham’.
  15. The solar orbiter spacecraft has captured the largest solar prominence eruption ever observed in a single image together with the full solar disc.
  16. Nagaland is all set to host the South Asian Athletic Federation (SAAF) cross country championship and 56th National Cross-Country Athletics Championships from 26th March in Kohima.
