CURRENT AFFAIRS OF 26th APRIL 2022
1. World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on 26 April to learn about the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2022 is “IP and Youth: innovating for a Better Future”.
2. International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day is observed every year on 26 April to raise awareness of the consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and the risks of nuclear energy in general.
3. India has been designated as the Guest of Honour Country at the Paris Book Festival 2022, held between 21 to 24 April, 2022.
4. Elon Musk, the world's richest man, agreed to acquire Twitter for $44 billion.
5. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will get John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award 2022. The award will be presented by Caroline Kennedy and her son, Jack Schlossberg on 22 May, 2022, at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, Boston, USA.
6. Prasar Bharati has signed an MoU with the Public Broadcaster of Argentina Radio Television Argentina (RTA) for collaboration in the field of broadcasting.
7. Guadalajara, Mexico has been named World Book Capital for the year 2022 by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, on the recommendation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee.
8. India is the only country among the top ten steel-producing nations in the world that grew steel output from January to March 2022 over the same period last year.
9. Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), India's leading financial institution for MSME sector, has signed an MoU with West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited (WBSIDCL) to develop the eco-system for micro and small enterprises in the state.
10. Eminent writer of Odisha and Padma Shri awardee (2020), Binapani Mohanty passed away at the age of 85. She had founded an organisation of Odia women writers named ‘Odisha Lekhika Sansad’.
11. NITI Aayog has released a draft battery swapping policy, under which all metropolitan cities with a population above 40 lakh will be prioritized for the development of a battery swapping network under the first phase. All major cities such as state capitals, UT headquarters, and cities with populations above 5 lakh will be covered under the second phase.
12. Health and Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, Keshava Reddy Sudhakar has launched the ‘Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully’ (SAANS) Campaign to ensure early detection and greater awareness of pneumonia in children under the age of five.
13. Russia has successfully test-fired the ‘RS-28 SARMAT’, world’s most powerful nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile.
14. The Tripura government has signed an MoU with NIXI-CSC Data Services Centre, a joint venture of the National Internet Exchange of India NIXI and CSE e-governance services Ltd, to establish an international standard grade Data Centre at Indranagar, headquarters of IT Bhavan, Tripura.
15. Andrey Rublev (Russian) has defeated World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic (Serbia) to win his third title in the Serbia Open.
16. Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik released two books, ‘The Magic of Mangalajodi’ by Avinash Khemka; and ‘Sikh History of Eastern India’ by Abinash Mohapatra.
