  1. World Water Week 2022 takes place from 23 August to 1 September. The theme of the World Water Week 2022 is: “Seeing the Unseen: The Value of Water”, which helps us view water in new and fascinating ways.
  2. The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is celebrated on 23 August of each year.
  3. India’s first commercial space situational awareness observatory, to track objects as small as 10 cm in size orbiting the earth, will be set up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand by Digantara, a Bengaluru-based space sector start-up.
  4. The Government of India extended the tenure of Meenesh C Shah, an Executive Director (ED) of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to hold charge as the Chairman of NDDB for another six months until 30 November, 2022. 
  5. In a first, the Uttar Pradesh Government is planning to build an education township in the state with an idea of ‘Single Entry, Multiple Exit’.
  6. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Asuncion, Paraguay on 21 August, 2022.
  7. A group of researchers has discovered a new species of bent-toed gecko from Agasthyamalai Hills in the Western Ghats, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu. It was given a common name Aravind’s Ground Gecko after noted malacologist Neelvara Ananthram Aravind. The scientific name of the species is Cyrtodactylus Aravindi.
  8. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the 23rd Central Zonal Council Meeting in Bhopal on 22 August, 2022.
  9. India secured the third rank in the medal tally at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA).
  10. The Union Government has launched the ‘Rashtriya Puruskar Portal’ to bring together all the awards of the various ministries of the government under one platform.
  11. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has developed India’s first indigenous motorised wheelchair vehicle, ‘NeoBolt’, that can be used even on uneven terrains.
  12. India pitches indigenously built fighter aircraft, anti-tank missiles at ‘ARMY- 2021’ in Moscow.
  13. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have started a joint initiative scheme called the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).
  14. Tenzin Lekphell, the Secretary General of the seven-nation grouping BIMSTEC, is on a four-day visit to India from 22 August, 2022.
  15. Veteran filmmaker Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala aged 91 years passed away on 22 August, 2022.
